Total Ocean is a company dedicated to the optimization of marine products and job creation in rural communities. It acts responsibly using abundant and sustainable fishery resources.

The first operations of Total Ocean will concentrate on the seal resource, called “loup-marin” (sea wolf) in the Magdalen Islands.

It is important to note here that there are two commercial seal species in the Gulf of St. Lawrence: the harp seal and the gray seal. The first saw its population increase from 1.5 million in the 70 to nearly 8 million in 2010. During the same period, the number of gray seals increased from 10,000 to nearly 500,000 (1).

The overpredation of this mammal adversely affects the marine ecosystem, fish stocks and the fishing industry (2).
